Need a ride to Jost. . .

Great Harbour on OYN

It’s time for “New Year’s Eve” on beautiful Jost Van Dyke, or as Foxy’s may refer to it, “Old Year’s Night”. Thousands of visitors descend on the tranquil isle for what is the Caribbean’s largest New Year’s Eve party. Great Harbor and White Bay both explode with Calypso music and local cuisine of all kinds. It’s truly one of the more festive events the VI’s have to offer.

With so many party-goers flooding an island built for only a few hundred, getting in and out can turn out to be an exercise in futility. Lines for the public ferry can get exhaustive and there’s no guaranteeing a seat. Those with their own boats enter customs in Great Harbor at their own risk. Hundreds of boats fill the anchorage, starting with mega-yachts skirting the exterior, to small single engine runabouts pulled up to the beach. However, once you get in, the party is well worth it…but caution: Leaving the island after midnight can be a nightmare, that is, if you don’t happen to find the public ferry’s are all full by the time you get back to the dock.

Fortunately, there is a way to navigate safely to Jost for New Year’s Eve and with very little hassle, relatively speaking. For years, Dolphin Water Taxi has been shuttling guests back and forth from both Red Hook and Cruz Bay, by offering reserved seats in both directions. They utilize smaller boats during the early daytime runs and a 50-passenger boat for the slightly busier evening hours. For the return, when midnight passes and your party legs are about to give out, they have a chartered Fast Ferry whisking everyone back to US customs in Cruz Bay and then back to Red Hook. Reserved seating for Dolphin’s 1:30am departure from Great Harbor means no waiting in lines at the Jost ferry dock hoping for a seat to get home.

This year Dolphin teams up with Molly Molone’s and Premier Wines and Spirits to make this year’s New Year’s Eve excursion to Jost one big party from start to finish. Departures begin at 11am and continue every other hour all day long until 7pm. Dolphin passengers are encouraged to check in early and take advantage of the pre-departure Bon-Voyage party at Molly’s. Great food, live music, free Miller Lites, Jager, and Jameson shots help set the proper atmosphere for the rest of the year.

The ride over takes approximately 35 minutes with complimentary beverages served onboard. While roaming around in Great Harbor, Dolphin’s guests can also help themselves to a free Miller Lite at Corsair’s and a free Jager shot at Foxy’s. There will be no skimping on libations…not for this last day of the year (and it’s a Saturday to boot!). As always, Dolphin encourages all its guests to drink responsibly, be respectful, and play safe.

Dolphin Water Taxi is already taking reservations for the New Year’s Eve trip to Jost at 340-774-2628. The cost is $110pp, plus $25 in customs and fees. Space is obviously limited, so reserve early!!
